Chipotle Mexican Grill intends to hire 19,000 workers in preparation for what it calls “burrito season,” its peak sales period that runs from March through May. This is 4,000 more workers than the restaurant chain said it would hire last year to accommodate increased demand during these months.

The fast casual restaurant chain also announced its plans to provide additional financial wellness and mental well-being support for its more than 110,000 employees. These include initiatives to help employees pay off student debt and access mental health resources. In a statement, the company said the benefits will provide support in particular to its Gen Z employees, who make up 73% of its workforce.

“It has been widely cited that those born in the late 90s through the early 2000s are experiencing notable financial challenges, including racking up credit card debt faster than previous generations and being nearly twice as likely as the general population to not feel confident managing their money,” the statement reads.

As well as wooing Gen Z with new benefits, Chipotle highlights its solid record with career advancement, noting that nearly 90% of current employees in leadership roles began as crew members.

Chipotle says it promoted over 26,000 employees in 2023.
