For toasting those who fed you, or feeding those who toast you, holiday gifts that spread the joy of food are always welcome at this table. This year, we highlighted some of our favorite innovative food brands—from a David Chang-approved microwave cooker to a Japanese marketplace that sources the best in artisanal goodies—as well as some sure-fire Recommender standbys (Our Place and Burlap & Barrel, FTW). If you’re shopping for home cooks, semi-pro chefs, or the hostess who can’t be beat—these are our top culinary, food, and kitchen gift recommendations.
Papier Recipe Journals
Papier offers these lovely recipe journals in dozens of cover styles (i.e., Baker, Pasta People, Vegetable Medley), so you can customize the look as well as personalize the cover with their name. Great for storing family recipes, jotting notes, remembrances, even new ideas for a dish. Pages in the back have measurement-conversion charts plus blank lists for favorite restaurants or ones to try. In hardcover with a ribbon marker.
WhistlePig Sparkle Maple Old Fashioned Kit
Vermont-based rye maker WhistlePig has the kit for anyone who enjoys quality booze, but is also happy to put a twist on an old classic while giving it some sparkle. It combines the brand’s PiggyBack 6-year-old rye and a bottle of its sparkling barrel-aged maple syrup, sourced from Runamok, as well as a golden pig head spout. Just add bitters and an orange peel, and enjoy.
Anyday Starter Set
For the microwave chef and those who would benefit from the time-savers of microwave cooking. Anyday’s two-dish set of borosilicate-glass bowls with matching glass and stainless steel lids (microwave-safe, of course!) comes in two sizes (medium and large) and three colors. It’s the ultimate for busy families and dorm-room chefs.
The Full XCJ Experience Kit
For the friend who always craves soup dumplings and high-quality Sichuan noodles, but whose local take-out place isn’t anything fancy, look no further than Xiao Chi Jie. The Washington-based company’s Full Experience kit includes a 50-pack of their signature soup dumplings; a variety pack of noodles with Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles, Shanghai Scallion Oil Noodles, and Beijing Zha Jiang Noodles; a trio of sauces (Ginger and Scallion Umami Oil, Classic Black Vinegar, and Spicy Chili Crisp); and a two-tiered bamboo steamer.
Misen Dutch Oven
It’s hard to improve on this cookware classic, but Misen managed to serve up a more durable version at a (much) more affordable price—which wowed Recommender, as well as more than 36,000 backers on its Kickstarter campaign. A few of the updated features: it’s lighter, finished in a ding-proof enamel, and has a nearly nonstick surface. Choose from two different lid styles—traditional and a handy grill-pan top—and five colors.
Material Kitchen reBoard
What kitchen ever has enough cutting boards? This one is not only striking, but also good for the planet. Made entirely of recycled plastic from discarded kitchenware scraps and renewable sugar cane, the reBoard measures 14.75″x10.75″, comes in five cool colors, and is BPA-free (of course!).
Bokksu Kyoyuzen Candy Mix
Looking almost too pretty to eat, Bokksu’s Kyoyuzen Candy Mix is made by one of the oldest artisanal candy makers in Kyoto, Japan. Each bag contains a colorful collection of tile-like candies in delicate fruity flavors. Here’s a stocking stuffer for the discerning foodie with a sweet tooth.
Acid League Makers Series Onima Hot Sauce Kit
Building on its history of collaborations with other brands, Acid League recently launched its Maker Series, focused on bringing the work of global artisans and food producers to North America. The first installment was a partnership with Spanish hot sauce brand Onima. The exclusive trio of hot sauces—Malson, Il Mig and Cry Baby—run the gamut from mild to extra hot.
Fly by Jing Sichuan Salsero Set
Turn someone’s favorite condiment into a conversation piece with Fly By Jing’s beautiful Salsero sets. Brightland is known for exceptionally flavorful olive oils and vinegars, and founder Aishwarya Iyer designed her brand to look as good as it tastes—perfect ingredients for gifting your favorite foodies. The Festive Capsule is a collection of Brightland’s best sellers—two bottles of EVOO, champagne and balsamic vinegars, two types of California honey, plus a mini whisk and handsome pour spout.
BlueCut SJ Apron
BlueCut’s SJ Apron in French linen features an adjustable neck strap, pair of lap pockets, handy top pocket for pen or thermometer, and an embroidered carnation corsage. Designed by cofounder Karam Kim, the apron is named for her mother (the carnation detail is a nod to the Korean tradition of children gifting parents with a carnation on Parents’ Day). For a less flowery take, see the Lucca Linen Apron—same bib style sans embroidery.
west~bourne Spiced Goji Berry Crunch
Brainchild of restaurateur and founder of ROAR (Restaurants Organizing Advocating Rebuilding) Camilla Marcus, the addictively tasty snacks from west~bourne are perfect for packing hampers and stockings. Our Place’s ubiquitous colorful, Instagrammable pans may top many-a-wishlist, but don’t sleep on their excellent knife sets. The trio is just as #aesthetic, featuring colorful handles and ergonomic designs, so slicing and dicing like a pro just comes naturally.

Miss no opportunity to slurp on tapioca pearls with Tea Drop’s collaboration with unofficial bubble tea icon, Hello Kitty (obviously), featuring cat-shaped versions of their solid loose leaf tea, boba, and an extra-wide rose gold straw.
Burlap and Barrel Floyd Cardoz Masalas
To celebrate the life of late Chef Floyd Cardoz, small batch spice gurus Burlap & Barrel released these six masalas. Three were first developed in collaboration with Cardoz himself in 2019, while the other three were developed in collaboration with his wife, Barkha.

Designed by Takushiro Shinomoto, the Cali-based creative director schooled in the time-tested ways of Hasami pottery from the Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan.
