Eatwell Assistive Tableware Set

Appetites naturally change as we age, but the relationship to food shifts even more for Alzheimer’s disease patients, who might struggle using traditional utensils or who can easily forget to eat altogether. Motivated by the challenges she saw her grandmother face, industrial designer Sha Yao created Eatwell Assistive Tableware to make mealtimes more enjoyable and effective for those with cognitive and physical difficulties. The ergonomic collection is brightly colored to stimulate thirst and hunger, and formed to maximize intake with minimal movement: slanted cups and bowls collect all the good stuff in one side to be quickly nabbed by straw or spoon; handles are optimized for arthritic hands; and the tray that brings everything together has special divots to attach protective cloths, so everything that’s not part of the set stays clean.
