Sara Menker is the founder and CEO of Gro Intelligence, a software company that uses artificial intelligence to make forecasts about global agriculture. She worked previously as a commodities trader and vice president at Morgan Stanley, where during the 2008 financial crisis she recognized the dearth of information available about the food sector, yet the necessity to make more ahead of a global hunger crisis. Menker was born in Ethiopia and holds an MBA from Columbia University. While Gro works with private clients, she directed the company to step in and share highly accurate crop forecasts when the USDA delayed them because of the federal government shutdown in early 2019. By working with players on both the supply and demand sides of food production, she hopes to make food more widely available and affordable to everyone.
