Kiwi Sara Clemens is no stranger to the tech world, having lent her leadership talent to some of Silicon Valley’s most famous and influential names. Last year, Clemens became the COO of Twitch, the streaming service for gamers, where she’s carving paths for the company’s culture, strategy, and innovation.
The New Zealander split the early part of her career between her native island and a smaller, rainier one, attending the University of Canterbury and taking roles at U.K. mobile company Three, and at Microsoft in London. Her stateside career started when she transferred to Microsoft’s HQ in Seattle, heading up entertainment operations for Xbox. She then spent a year at LinkedIn and three as the COO at Pandora.
Since then, she’s brought her corporate strategy and international experience to Amazon-owned Twitch, the part-streaming, part-social media service for video game enthusiasts. The 15 million daily active users can watch fellow users play Fortnite, view live poker championships, and tune into Pokémon and Doctor Who marathons, courtesy of 2.2 million monthly broadcasters.
All the while, Clemens, as one of the Silicon Valley’s few female senior executives, has taken an active role in promoting women in business and tech.
