Roy Choi seems to have a penchant for “things aren’t always what they seem.” The former street thug turned Culinary Institute of America-trained chef, has taken beat-up trucks plastered in stickers and turned them into a collection of Kogi BBQ Taco trucks across Los Angeles that has exploded in popularity. He’s since expanded his empire to include Chego and A-Frame restaurants, cookbook memoir L.A. Son, The Line hotel, and CNN.com series Street Food. In 2016, Choi teamed up with Daniel Patterson to open up burger joint Locol. Prior to launching his mobile restaurant venture in 2008, Choi honed his skills at Le Bernandin.
