Former traveling salesman Luke Saunders founded Farmer’s Fridge, a company that sells fresh salads and other meals (sandwiches, soups) via computerized kiosks. Currently, there are over 200 fridges scattered throughout Chicago and Milwaukee—all are stocked daily with fresh items made from scratch in a nearby kitchen; what food remains at the end of the day is donated to local organizations. As of 2019, revenue has increased 50% year-over-year and the company has grown by almost 10x in the previous two years. In 2019-20, Saunders plans to expand into more of the Midwest (in cities like Indianapolis)—and other markets.
