For seizing the moments
Laura Javier is a product designer at Facebook and has worked on Facebook Moments since its inception at a company hackathon in 2012. Organizing your photos is a pain, and most people just dump pictures into a folder and forget about them. Facebook’s Moments app, which launched in June 2015, offers a better way to privately share photos you take with the people in them, taking the work out of sharing photos. Moments automatically organizes all of the pictures on your phone, using photo and facial-recognition technology to create categories for specific events, places, and people. The technology also allows users to distribute images easily to a select group of Facebook friends rather than posting them on a feed for everyone to see—and, perhaps, be annoyed by. Usership is growing fast, with 400 million photos shared by February 2016. Javier has been a product designer at Facebook since 2011, and has worked on projects spanning News Feed, photos, video, privacy, Profile, Pages, Platform, and more. Prior to Facebook, Javier was a designer for Flok, a mobile app that optimizes spontaneous event creation among friends and family. Javier graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BFA in communication design.
