For applying the VC model to philanthropy
Kate Roberts is the senior vice president for corporate partnerships and philanthropy at Population Services International and cofounder of Maverick Collective, a new philanthropic venture aimed at ending extreme poverty by asking philanthropists to invest their time, talent, and financial resources to promising solutions aimed at improving the health and rights of women and girls. Roberts has been part of the development world for 18 years, and designed several successful public health initiatives, like YouthAIDS and Five & Alive, which raises awareness among young people about HIV and under-5 child survival. In 2007, Kate was named “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum. Prior to PSI, Kate worked in marketing and advertising, and is now utilizing her branding skills to help members of Maverick Collective spread the word about their innovative pilot projects.
