Most Creative People

Kagiso Lediga is a South African comedian, actor, and filmmaker whose 2019 independent film Matwetwe—which he wrote, directed, and produced—became a box office sensation in South Africa and garnered acclaim at international film festivals. Lediga began his career as a stand-up comedian and created the South African sketch comedy show The Pure Monate Show. He also co-created and was a showrunner on the International Emmy-nominated show Late Nite News with Lois Gola. In 2009 he cofounded the Johannesburg-based production company Diprente Films, which develops and produces TV and film projects for global audiences, including the 2017 Netflix local-language film Catching Feelings, which Kagiso wrote, directed, and starred in. His next project, the TV series Queen Sono, is also for Netflix. Kagiso’s stories present an honest depiction of his subjects—whether they’re young potheads in Pretoria trying to make a buck, or cosmopolitan suburbanites—in a post-apartheid South Africa, something locals rarely see in the media.
