Jessica Alter is no stranger to the depth of talent in Silicon Valley: She led business development at Bebo, a social networking website, and most recently, she was the CEO at FounderDating--a platform that connects entrepreneurs with advisers to help grow their businesses and careers, which she sold in 2016. But after the election of Donald Trump in November 2016, she watched all the people in her networks confront the same question: What could they do to help? She founded Tech For Campaigns (TFC) shortly after as a way to channel that energy into productive change.
The platform connects Silicon Valley experts--coders, designers, social media gurus--with progressive campaigns to offer pro bono technical assistance. Especially as people in tech seek ways to contribute meaningfully to progressive politics, Alter has created a way for them to do so--and keep their day jobs. What’s next: Expanding TFC’s reach from 50 campaign projects in 2017 to 500 by the end of 2018.
