For turning leggings into art
Jennifer Bandier is the founder of Bandier, a luxury athletic wear boutique with locations in New York State and Dallas, as well as an e-commerce arm. Before she started Bandier in 2014, she was an entrepreneur and music executive who worked at places like EMI Music Publishing and HMV and managed groups like TLC. After breaking her foot and spending months on crutches, Bandier discovered a serious dearth of stylish athletic wear shops within walking distance. So she delved into the corners of the Internet, scouring for niche brands that made high-quality fitness wear that could also be worn more casually. She ended up opening the first Bandier location seasonally in Southampton, New York, where it soon took off. Her timing was serendipitous, paralleling the rise in so-called "athleisure" fashion. Now, Bandier has helped bring small designers to fashion’s forefront and gained a following among celebrities like Kim Kardashian West and Lena Dunham, who have turned Bandier’s colorful patterned leggings into viral Instagram bait. In 2016 Bandier plans to expand even further, with several new stores in places like Miami and Los Angeles.
