Haley Van Dyck is deputy administrator of the U.S. Digital Service team. Before she cofounded the team, she served as senior technology advisor for the White House, where she led President Obama’s Open Data Policy and Executive Order that required all federal data be “open by default.” The rest of her career is also full of firsts: As the director of digital strategy and engagement at USAID, she built the first team to educate the public on international issues through tech and open data. As the director of user experience and online engagement at the Federal Communications Commission, she created the first new media department. She also goes way back with Obama, working on the Obama for America team and as the technology, innovation, and government reform committee advisor for the Obama-Biden transition team in 2008.
