Fred Armisen

Producer and Performer

For tapping new comedy talents

The chameleonic sketch-comedy dynamo is now melting into the role of impresario. Fred Armisen is working to create opportunities for underutilized Latino comedians and writers via Más Mejor, a “comedy studio” that produces and distributes its sketches and series on YouTube and Telemundo, as well as Popsugar Latina and the Batanga digital network. “I help with content and looking for talent,” says Armisen, who briefly lived in Brazil as a child and whose mother is Venezuelan. Armisen—the star and cocreator of hit IFC shows Portlandia and Documentary Now!—has contributed a few sketches of his own (such as a series spoofing men’s fashion week), but the most satisfying part of his role is helping people “[get] cast on different TV shows.” In its first year, players in Más Mejor’s troupe have appeared on Lady Dynamite, The Eric Andre Show, @midnight, and Adam Devine’s House Party, and sold pilots to CBS and Fox.
