Eric Garcetti

Mayor | Los Angeles, CA

Eric Garcetti is the mayor of Los Angeles, a position he's held since 2013. He was previously a member of the L.A. City Council, representing the 13th district. Garcetti—who is of Mexican and Russian descent—is the first Jewish mayor for the city in more than a century. A student of political science and urban planning at Columbia University, he went on to earn his master's in international affairs from the university, too. While at Columbia, Garcetti (also a jazz pianist) was a musical theater performer, president of the literary society, and founder of the Columbia Urban Experience—a weeklong, civic-minded pre-orientation program for first-year students. He uses that colorful background to approach his work as mayor of L.A. Since taking office, he's tackled tough issues such as water conservation, raising the minimum wage, and homelessness. His next order of business? Being what he calls a "builder"—building up L.A., its economy, infrastructure, and, ultimately,  people’s trust in government.
