Emil Wilbekin is a New York City-based media professional who produces and curates digital, print, social media, and event-based content. He’s appeared on-air discussing pop culture for outlets such as VH1, MTV, CNN and The Today Show. His most well-known cultural contributions include his roles as managing editor and editor-at-large at Essence magazine, as well as editor-in-chief of Vibe magazine, during which Vibe won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence. In 2016, Wilbekin founded Native Son, an advocacy and networking group for professional black gay men that hosts the annual Native Son Awards, which has honored such figures as activist Deray Mckesson and CNN’s Don Lemon and counts HBO, Cadillac, and Belvedere among its sponsors.
