
DJ Patil joined the White House as a data scientist in residence with a focus in healthcare data, in February 2015. Prior to joining the White House, he was VP of Product at RelateIQ, which focuses on helping making better decisions through your relationships. Salesforce acquired RelateIQ for $400 million in 2014.
Patil has held a variety of roles in academia, industry, and government, including positions as the Data Scientist in Residence at Greylock Partners; the Chief Scientist, Chief Security Officer, and Head of Analytics and Data Product Teams at LinkedIn; and various roles at Skype, PayPal, and eBay. Patil is also recognized for co-coining the term "data scientist."
Patil has served as a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland, and as an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow for the Department of Defense, where he directed new efforts to leverage social network analysis to anticipate emerging threats to the U.S. He has also co-chaired a major review of U.S. efforts to prevent bioweapons proliferation in Central Asia, and cofounded the Iraqi Virtual Science Library (IVSL).
