Most Creative People 2018

Amber Ruffin

Writer and Performer, Late Night With Seth Meyers | New York

For telling the jokes only she can tell
The Most Creative People in business 2018

When Amber Ruffin joined the writing staff of Late Night with Seth Meyers when it launched in 2013, she became the first African-American woman ever to write for a late-night talk show. Since then she's become one of the show's breakout stars, performing in racism- and sexism-skewering bits like "Jokes Seth Can't Tell." She also writes for the Comedy Central series Detroiters, is a regular guest on Drunk History, hosted the 2018 Writers Guild of America Awards, and has a sitcom deal with Meyers and Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels.

Up next? She's punching up The Wiz for contemporary audiences. The show launches at St. Louis's prestigious Muny Theater in June.
