The World's Most Innovative Companies 2016It would be easy for a 55-year-old institution like the World Wildlife Fund (or the World Wide Fund for Nature, as it is called in most of the world) to cling to traditional methods of fundraising--corporate relationships and sad commercials with moving music tend to do well. But today's WWF knows the importance of reaching people where they are, and has accordingly made social media a huge part of its strategy to help the Twittering masses stake a claim in the fight to save the world's most endangered creatures. The nonprofit won a Webby Award for its 2014 #LastSelfie campaign, which featured Snapchat ads with self destructing images of endangered animals and messages that included the phrase "Don't let this be my #LastSelfie." In 2015, WWF joined forces with creative agency Widen + Kennedy London to let bleeding hearts (and prolific tweeters) donate to the organization by tweeting images of #EndangeredEmoji--17 emoji that represent real animals that are nearly extinct.
