West 8

Founded in 1987 by Adriaan Geuze, West 8 is a Dutch urban design and landscape architecture firm that has mostly worked in Europe. But in 2016, it designed storm-resistant infrastructure for a park on New York’s Governors Island that quite literally raised the elevation of the island, creating sweeping panoramic views in the process. As climate change becomes an even greater threat, West 8’s approach to landscape architecture as a form of resilience will become even more relevant.
