AT&T And Time Warner: Why Cord-Cutters Could Get Screwed Either Way
If you’ve cut the cable cord, you shouldn’t be rooting for AT&T and Time Warner’s merger to succeed. But then, you might not be much better off if it doesn’t.

Turner, a Time Warner company, is the global entertainment, sports, and news company behind some of the biggest brands in media, including CNN, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, TBS, and TNT. In January 2014, John Martin became Turner CEO and Chairman and has helped lead the company to being a digital pioneer, creating platforms like Super Deluxe; Eleague, an esports competition league; and FilmStruck, a streaming app for cinephiles. All of them appeal to audiences who have abandoned traditional television. TBS and TNT, under the leadership of Turner Entertainment’s chief creative officer Kevin Reilly, have been reinvented from sleepy, re-run channels to the home of buzzy, award-winning shows like Full Frontal With Samantha Bee and The Alienist. Those and other shows are supported by a digital distribution strategy that reaches younger audiences where they actually watch via social media and mobile apps.
