As artists and entertainment companies figure out how to make money from streaming music, one thing remains clear: For most musicians, a sustainable future will rely increasingly on touring. Songkick has been building a comprehensive, up-to-date database of show listings and partnering with services such as Spotify, Pandora, and SoundCloud to funnel that concert data right where it belongs—in front of fans. Through targeted emails and push notifications sent from its own apps, Songkick can reach its 12 million users with relevant updates about who’s coming to town, often as soon as the shows are announced. In 2016, Songkick appended its concert discovery platform with ticket sales by merging with Crowdsurge. Now Songkick can not only keep fans in the loop, but can actually help artists fill seats and make money.
