Related Companies is a New York City-based real estate development firm founded in 1972 by Stephen M. Ross. Since its founding, the company has specialized in both luxury and affordable housing, commercial real estate development, and mixed-use development. In 2006, it branched into the fitness world, with the acquisition of luxury gym brand Equinox and subsequently SoulCycle. Key projects for the company include the Time Warner building in New York City’s Columbus Circle neighborhood, Las Vegas’s Cosmopolitan hotel, and most recently, Hudson Yards, a $25 billion mixed-use development on New York City’s far west side that has been dubbed the most expensive private real estate development project in the U.S. The site will include the first Equinox hotel, the city’s first-ever Neiman Marcus, a shopping and restaurant complex, 14 acres of public space, private residences and commercial offices, and a sculpture by British starchitect Thomas Heatherwick. The entire project is set to be completed by 2025.
