Osmo designs educational games that seem to magically combine digital and physical worlds. When the company unveiled its first app in 2014, cofounder and CEO Pramod Sharma's pitch—augmented reality, for kids—was a harder sell. Now, thanks to Pokémon Go, AR has gone mainstream overnight. The Pokémon craze may fade, but Sharma says Osmo is here to stay. "Our focus has always been on kids and creativity, learning," he says. The company has raised $38.5 million in venture backing and released eight games so far, some focused on math and reading and others more simply focused on fun. For 2017, a major partnership with Mattel is in the works.
