L'Oréal

Founded in 1909 by a young chemist named Eugène Paul Louis Schueller, who was looking for a better way to dye hair, French cosmetics giant L'Oréal sells more than 30 brands of beauty products. But in 2016, L'Oréal took a step from beauty's analog past into the digital future. The world's largest beauty brand announced a new type of wearable, My UV Patch from La Roche-Posay. The patch is a stretchable sensor that affixes to the skin, and lets wearers know when they've had too much sun exposure in a colorful, calming way. In another high-tech beauty move, L'Oréal scientists designed Le Teint Particulier, a process for creating custom foundation shades using face-scanning technology.
