Group Nine is a joint venture with Discovery Communications that oversees several millennial-focused online publishers, including Thrillist, NowThis, Seeker, and the Dodo. The sites together generate more than 5 billion monthly video views across platforms and receive 40 million unique visitors daily, including 80% of Americans in their 20s. The New York-based company is building a Los Angeles studio to create digital programming for Facebook, Snapchat, and other online platforms, as well as Discovery’s network. Advertisers are drawn to Group Nine not just for its huge audience, but for its controversy-free content, such as the animal videos that appear on the Dodo, which has been called “the anti-Vice.” In 2017, the company, which is valued at $600 million, acquired the digital comedy venture Jash. Group Nine has built the largest digital video media company (90% of their content is video) for new content distribution platforms like IGTV and Snapchat videos.
