Giphy is a social media company that creates and distributes seconds-long video loops, or GIFs, used to animate digital conversations. The company has more than tripled its daily users since December 2016 to 300 million people who share more than 2 billion GIFs a day across Giphy.com and the many platforms where Giphy is embedded, including Facebook, Slack, and iMessage. Much of Giphy’s content is entertainment-based and the company has become an important marketing tool for Hollywood studios and networks. Other major brands, too, are working with Giphy to build campaigns and reach people within the intimate environments of direct messages and email. In 2017, Giphy opened a studio in Los Angeles and is now creating its own GIF content as it evolves into an entertainment destination that’s vying with Netflix and other platforms for eyeballs.
