Focus Features is a filmmaker-focused company, a division of Universal, whose mission is to help those artists tell meaningful stories that inspire, entertain, and show the power of movies. In 2018, Focus worked with Morgan Neville on his seminal Mister Rogers documentary and had Jordan Peele collaborating with Spike Lee on Lee's BlacKkKlansman.
In order to create effective marketing campaigns for its films, Focus custom designed tools that provide real-time insights, with the help of such partners as Facebook, Google, and Fandango (also part of Comcast-NBCUniversal). These social metrics and digital advertising performance results help Focus maximize ticket sales. For Neville's hit Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, Focus led with a digital campaign. It partnered with social good brands such as Warby Parker to spread awareness of the movie and its message. Focus is also the first studio to launch an original Facebook Watch show, You Know That Scene, featuring experts breaking down thematic thru-lines.
In 2017, Focus celebrated its 15-year anniversary by curating unique cinematic experiences, including global rooftop screenings and weekly Facebook Live streams of its iconic titles. 2017 also saw a return to form for Focus as a specialty film leader, boasting a record year with $500MM at the global box office with its partners Universal Pictures International. In addition it earned 14 Oscar nominations, and 3 Oscar wins (for Darkest Hour and Phantom Thread).
