Commercial drone delivery startup Flytrex is credited with developing the world’s first drone-based delivery network. The Israel-based company works by delivering parcels to pick-up points communicated to a user via text message. Users can then receive packages through a drop-down cable from the drone while it remains in the air to combat safety concerns. Early Flytrex partners include Ukraine’s national postal service UkrPoshta and the huge Icelandic e-commerce platform AHA. For its 2017 launch in Reykjavik, Iceland, Flytrex partnered with AHA to deliver goods across a wide river that splits the city in two, speeding up delivery times to as little as a few minutes. Meanwhile, Flytrex’s software and cloud-based solutions will eventually be available to businesses of all sizes to buy into. The drone also presents a 100% clean-energy alternative to traditional modes of shipping.
