The country’s second-largest airline, Delta is leading the airline industry in creating more seamless airport experiences. It was the first domestic carrier to introduce and globally deploy Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) bag tags, which provide customers with real-time tracking of their bags and replace hand-scanned barcodes, a decades-old technology. Scanners mounted throughout airports can now track the RFID chips embedded in Delta’s printable bag tags, offering updates to both passengers and airline employees. In 2017, Delta introduced automatic check-in for passengers via its app, and in 2018, it opened the country’s first all-biometric terminal at Atlanta’s Hartsfield–Jackson Airport. Now customers can use Delta Biometrics “from curb to gate” using a state-of-the-art, innovative, optional, and free biometric verification program. Delta not only upgraded the customer experience in 2018, but also made tech-driven safety innovations in the cockpit. A new version of Delta’s proprietary app, Flight Weather Viewer, uses big data to provide Delta pilots with real-time information on weather and turbulence along their flight path to help keep customers and crew safe.
