Adjaye Associates is the brainchild of David Adjaye, its principal architect, who founded the firm in 2000. Adjaye is the lead designer behind the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. The British-Ghanaian architect is known for his innovative use of materials, and the full force of his skill is on display at the NMAAHC, which features a boxy latticework metal shell inspired by Yoruban sculptures. Adjaye Associates is also known for the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. In 2017, Adjaye was knighted by the Queen of England in recognition of his services to architecture.
