Common Goal

Of all sports, perhaps none has the global reach, wealth, and cultural significance as soccer. And with Common Goal, launched with the support of Manchester United’s Juan Mata, the hope is that the sport will create a social impact to match. The movement, launched by the nonprofit streetfootballworld, encourages all professional soccer players to donate 1% of their salaries to a shared fund, housed by the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium, that will support initiatives around the world to use the sport as a force for good. Founded 15 years ago, streetfootballworld has amassed a network of around 120 charities that place soccer at the center of community and equity building, from refugee integration in Germany to gender equality in India. With the investment of players from around the world, the impact of these charities will only grow.
