ClassPass

The World's Most Innovative Companies 2016The people behind fitness course registration app ClassPass know that staying in shape isn't cheap. If you regularly experiment with studio classes, like Barry's Bootcamp or Zumba, you'll rack up some hefty bills at the end of each month. A studio class costs about $35 a pop, making it far more expensive than a gym membership if you go more than once or twice a week. But ClassPass, a startup that launched in 2011, offers a solution: For $79 to $125 per month, depending on the city you live in, anyone can book and explore unlimited studio classes. That model doesn't work for everyone--the company drew ire from users in New York City who resented a recent price bump-but the popular startup seems to have found its niche among urban professionals in the tech and business communities. In 2015, ClassPass expanded to every major U.S. market, and it passed a major milestone when it booked more than two million classes.
