Baobab Studios

Although consumer virtual reality has gotten a great deal of mainstream media coverage, it is still not yet a mainstream technology. One of the reasons is that there is a dearth of compelling content, especially for non-gamers. That's where storytelling studios like Baobab come into play. Founded by veterans of Zynga and DreamWorks Animation, among other places, the company blends Silicon Valley technological chops with Hollywood filmmaking success. With the Emmy-winning film Invasion, Baobab created one of the first true VR hits—and inspired a forthcoming theatrical film. Its success is due largely to imbuing its central character—a bunny that saves Earth from invading aliens—with emotion and agency. The follow-up film, Asteroids, follows the saga of the departing aliens.
