The university’s philosophy has long been to include, not exclude, students. In keeping with that tradition, Arizona State University has heavily invested in EdPlus, an enterprise unit that innovates on digital teaching and learning models. In 2018, EdPlus inked a partnership with Google—and Labster, a company that specializes in virtual reality simulations—to create a virtual-reality biology lab, reportedly the first of its kind. In 2018, Arizona State University partnered with universities around the world, from Lebanon to Uganda, to offer higher education and English-language programs for refugees. Through one year of in-person, on-site instruction and three years of coursework via online learning and local partner universities, refugees can earn a bachelor’s degree from local institutions.
