Do You Hear What They Hear?

In the most recent edition of the Living Workplace newsletter, Ann Coombs comments on the widespread usage of the phrase, “You’re fired!” as inspired by Mr. Trump.

The words and messages of the program send negative chills to those listening to what is not being said, especially those of us who wish to create living workplaces.

To watch Donald Trump divide men and women into separate teams, to fire the team member who earned the least money or to watch women use their sex appeal to win should cause all of us to stop and ask – what is the message here? The unspoken message seems to be – the fittest and the strongest survive making the rest deficient and unsuccessful. Or, the message that winning is what counts and no one cares how!

Calling for a more authentic leadership and honest communication of intention, Coombs suggests that what isn’t said at work is often more important — and real — than what is said. Do any FC Now readers have experience with this?
