The Android app is only 13MB in size and is optimized for 2G and unstable network connections, Microsoft says on its Skype Lite website. The lightweight app allows for both Skype chats and SMS messaging, as well as video calls. Microsoft says Skype Lite was “built for India,” but it’s feasible the company will roll out the app to other countries with poor mobile connectivity for large parts of their populations.
