That’s all Volkswagen had to say about the potential tie-up, according to Reuters, but scoring a deal like that in China could help Volkswagen secure its place as one of the country’s top-selling automakers. Since Chinese regulators are trying to steer people toward low-emission vehicles, Volkswagen set a goal of selling 400,000 electric and hybrid cars in China by 2020, with plans of ramping that up to 1.5 million sales by 2025.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Volkswagen is also partnering with car leasing company Shouqi Group Co. and may team up with its Chinese partners, FAW Group and SAIC Motor, in the used-car market.
