Report: Ransomware attackers getting more targeted, raising payment demands

A report from security firm Symantec shows ransomware attackers are increasingly targeting specific businesses and demanding higher fees to restore encrypted data, Bloomberg reports. About 57% of ransomware still targets individuals, though, who generally have weaker safeguards on their computers.

The average ransom demand has more than doubled since last year, rising from $294 to $679, reports the New Zealand publication Stuff, also citing Symantec data.
