“Metro” may be no more. Microsoft used the name at first to describe versions of its mobile Windows operating systems, and more recently the upcoming Windows 8 series, with its distinctive colored tiles. Instead, plans are being made to swap out the monicker for the clunkier tag: “Windows 8-style UI.” Ars Technica heard that a trademark dispute, or the threat of one, from German firm Metro AG prompted the decision.
