Patagonia Leads The Way For Benefit Corporations In California

Benefit corporations–a new class of corporation that allows companies to bake environmental and socially responsible policies into their charters–are now legal in California. Patagonia and 18 other companies became the first companies in the state to move toward benefit corporation status, which will keep them from being sued by shareholders who say that their policies are deflating stock prices or profits.
