She is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and is on the faculty of the Boston Architectural College in the Sustainable Design Program where she teaches “Sustainable Design as a Way of Thinking” and “Sustainable Design in Practice”. She recently received a grant to create a new on-line graduate level class on the history of sustainable buildings. As a member of the AIA, Ms. Sowinski earned over 100 continuing education learning unit credits associated with architecture and sustainable design for 2007. Currently, Ms. Sowinski has the following notable projects underway through the firm; Research and development of sustainable strategies for the Harmon Shop Facilities, which are slated to be a $430 million LEED Silver complex, a green parking garage study and LEED strategies for stations for the MTA/Metro North Railroad; The Epstein’s Redevelopment in Morristown, projected to be a LEED Platinum project where the firm acts as the owner’s architectural representative with oversight of the various design teams. Currently there are over $600 million worth of buildings that are being designed to meet the LEED certification level or better status under her responsibility within the firm. This summer, Ms. Sowinski took part in the US EPA Science to Achieve Results SBIR (Green Buildings) peer review panel as part of the EPA’s selection process for their 2008 grant program for research and development funding.
