Michael Garcia Novak is the C.E.O. of CEDIM an Art and Design School in North East Mexico. National publications describe him as a driving force in the mexican design arena who is beginning to have an impact as a change agent in a city that is considered to be México’s economic engine. Born in Monterrey an important Industrial and educational city in Mexico. He studied Architecture at Instituto Tecnologico of Monterrey and as a student he showed at different Art and Architecture collective exhibitions. In 2001 he started working at CEDIM perusing to lead the institution his father had founded in 1978. In 2002 at 27 he became C.E.O of CEDIM with the vision of transforming a little known school of 500 students with only 3 Bachelor degree programs (Graphic Design, Fashion Design and Interior Design) into one of the most innovative and relevant Design institutions in Latin America. He Assembled a Team of international Chairs, he pushed and successfully oversaw the creation of three new programs (Media Arts, Industrial Design and Architecture), He Lead the creation of DESIGN WEEK MONTERREY an annual design conference that is considered to be the most important design event in Mexico and for 3 consecutive years has had the honor to host guest speakers like Arik Levy, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Andree Putman, Patrick Schumacher and Karim Rashid. DESIGN WEEK MONTERREY since 2003 has been growing in recognition and has been awarded 2 times best educational event by Cintermex Business Center. In 2004 he took a very important step moving the school out of two old houses into a new and flexible building in a very important location as an interim Campus for the school. In 4 years under Michael’s leadership CEDIM has grown 100% in student population (1000 students in august 2006), and 300% in revenues. CEDIM has become a well known brand as an innovative and visionary emerging school in Mexico. In 2007 will begin the construction of a new Campus that has the ambition of becoming an architectural symbol for Monterrey city and a platform for creative development. Michael is assembling a team of talented and creative individuals from all over the world, attracting people who are looking for a meaningful challenge. He has the ambition of turning CEDIM into the strongest academic Art and Design institution of Latin America and a context for design innovation and business.
