Wisdom vs. Knowledge Revisited Since my original post about wisdom vs. knowledge, I continue to discover that learning really is more than just gathering information. Learning is integrating that knowledge in some way to grow, shift, evolve and respond. We can memorize everything we read and store it for future reference, however if it sits there and isn't used, did we learn or just memorize? Are we wise if we share what we memorized or are we if we synthesize and contextualize it?

When I Ask Your Opinion This morning in Seth Godin's blog, he wrote about "When I want your opinion, I'll ask for it" -- it triggered some of the dynamics of what's been happening on Boards I'm involved in, my client's worlds and some of what my colleagues are dealing with in theirs as well. When I want your opinion, I'll definitely ask for it which doesn't translate to "Whatever you say I'll use as gospel and park my own opinions". Those of you who lead teams, organizations or boards of directors know how powerful generative dialogue is in makin

A World of Contradictions "Is easier harder?" "Is easier always better?" "Do you have to slow down to go faster?" Do we have to create space in our days so we can 'dance' in real time?

Change is Personal When organizations inform staff about massive change, transition, cut backs, re-engineering or whatever label they place on it with the assurance that "It's not personal" that they have to change how their organization operates to work within the current economic climate, keep up with competitors etc, and it's not about them, the take away is "It's about me. It's all about me."

Language to Communication to Filling in the Space with Chatter to...Distraction? We look at language as "a body of words and the systems for their use common to a people who are of the same community or nation, the same geographical area, or the same cultural tradition". We can be fluent in a language and yet fail to communicate clearly and concisely or tie the listener in knots by speaking around a topic and not saying anything of relevance.

Dishonest Deadlines People never have time to do things right but they always seem to have time to do them over. Is it by choice? No! They want to be able to do great work but unreasonable demands result in making promises staff just can't keep.

Are You Giving Away Your Personal Power?
The moment we allow someone else to make a decision for us, we're giving away our personal power. That goes for remaining silent when you know you need to speak up or not making a decision at all so someone or circumstances make it for you.

Live in the Questions
“Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. It is a question of experiencing everything. At present you need to live the question.

An All Or Nothing World
We don't live in an all or nothing world, even though many of our choices are black or white.
We do that often and we're not even aware that we're doing it.

Speak Beyond Your Fears People are putting things off because of the economy, because of lack of resources or not enough time. thing is, you can't buy back time. You can ask yourself (and answer) the question "When is the right time?" But while you do that, look at the ramifications of putting it off for the 'right' time as well.
And while you're at it, remember along with every choice you make, every conversation you have will shape your future.
Period.

Succeeding in the Midst of Challenging Times In times of economic challenges most people look at life from a position of what isn’t working as opposed to what is. Even more so, if you equate yourselves with what you do rather than who you are, and you’re struggling in your work, it will fundamentally impact your life. You’ve heard me say “Attitude is contagious.” It’s not only contagious to others but to yourselves as well as you talk yourself into something or out of something.

Time to Dive Back In
