Dental Radiology: At the direction of a New Jersey licensed dentist a licensed dental radiologic technologist is permitted to perform dental radiographic procedures for diagnostic purposes. Actual patient positioning is restricted to intraoral and extraoral procedures of the mouth and jaw area. The following tasks have been identified within the scope of practice of a licensed dental radiologic technologist: positioning of the patient for a dental radiographic procedure for diagnostic purposes, aligning the x-ray tube to the film receptacle, setting tube distance and exposure factors, exercising proper principles of radiation protection and making the exposure. Medical Assisting: The objective of the Medical Assisting Program is to provide students with instruction and clinical training to pursue a career in Healthcare. The Medical Assistant plays a key role in delivering patient education and patient care. Students will gain knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy, EKG, clinical office procedures and medical law and ethics. The Medical Assistant Program is a comprehensive course to include 460 hours of class instruction taught through a combination of lecture, lab and clinical exercises on site. Graduates of this program will receive a Certificate of Completion in Medical Assisting upon having met all program requirements in both didactic and lab. Students must be at least 18 years of age and have ownership of a high school diploma or GED. Medical Billing and Coding: The demand for Medical Billing and Coding professionals continues to rise, as the aging US population requires more medical attention and the insurance and governmental regulations have become more complex. Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical insurance and reimbursement, ICD-9 and CPT codes will be taught. Medical billers and coders play an important role in the medical office where they work, whether it's at a hospital, large healthcare facility, private medical clinic, or medical insurance company. They can go by many names, including billing specialist, insurance biller, claims analyst, patient account representative, claims processor, billing coordinator, or reimbursement specialist. In addition, under increased scrutiny from the government and insurance companies, health care providers look to hire formally trained medical coders and billers who will correctly comply with regulations, avoiding the potential legal ramifications of incorrect billing practices. The specialized training and skillfulness of medical insurance coders and billers puts them in high demand. One of the fastest growing careers, there are also considerable advancement opportunities in medical billing and coding and earnings potential up to $40/hour.
