Alex Iglecia is owner of The Epic Workout, a mind-body fitness program bringing the yogic motivation of awareness and self knowledge to strength-and-conditioning-focused exercise. The fitness industry is moving in this direction with "functional training", and Alex hopes to help lead it further towards a more integrative, holistic and nurturing understanding of movement practice and exercise. He has been training men and women in custom fitness programs since 2004, and was a pioneer of pragmatic self defense and personal combative skills since 1994. After earning a degree in engineering from Cornell University, Alex worked with in business development and team facilitation roles at startup and consulting companies. Alex became one of the first two instructors teaching Robert Bussey's self defense methods on the west coast in 1994, and pioneered this work in the East coast in 2002. The fresh, innovative approach Alex brought to empowering men and women through the physical, psychological and emotional aspects of training informed his work in fitness, mind/body movement systems and led to his research in the relationship between movement practices and personal transformation, his current research focus at The Graduate Institute.
