Bio

My name is Erin Green and I'm currently finishing my sophomore year at the University of Michigan. My major is Communications, and I hope to go into advertising and/or marketing when I "grow up". The University of Michigan's Communications curriculum is very broad, theory- and research-based. It's not very hands-on, we don't have any advertising classes, and I'm not in the business school so marketing classes are not readily available. For this reason, I am looking outside of my school for more opportunities to learn about advertising and marketing. Over the summer I plan to take some marketing classes at Eastern Michigan University. I have worked at The Michigan Daily, our campus newspaper, selling (and on occasion creating) print ads. Next summer I'm hoping to find an internship to get even more experience in the field. I'm also continuing to take Spanish classes, with the possibility of declaring it as a minor. I am interested in owning my own business a bit later in life, though I'm not sure what kind of business I would like at this point.

I'm excited about my career path, and looking forward to meeting other people in the fields that interest me through Fast Company's website. I love the magazine, and I think that the people who read it could have some great ideas and insight that I would love to tap into.

University of Michigan Telephone Fundraiser, RuffaloCody

I make phone calls on behalf of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses. We call alumni, parents of current students, and on occasion graduate students, and solicit donations for all of the different schools and programs within the University of Michigan education system. It's a bit like sales--I build rapport with prospective donors, inform them about the funds, where the money goes, why their gift is important to the University, I try to persuade them to donate, and I face a lot of rejection. I am looking into a managerial position in the near future.
