U2 and John Mayer Inject Their Music With Some Augmented Web 2.0

John Mayer's new song Heartbreak Warfare has been given the AR treatment. When you visit the musician's website, you're prompted for permission to access your webcam. When you hold up a key image, displayed on your smartphone or simply printed out, it triggers the app to start a dynamic interactive music video. Check out the demonstration in the clip.

Is the Album Dead? Radiohead Abandons It for Single-Track MP3s

Radiohead's an interesting band--musically the guys seem to follow their own path to innovative sounds. And now they're also following their own path to publishing music, and ditching the album format in favor of single-track downloads.

Coldplay Sells a Million Digital Albums, Confirms Downloads Are King

Coldplay is the king of downloads. According to Neilsen, the band has become the first to sell over one million digital albums in the U.S., and over two million worldwide. It may be surprising that this hasn't happened before, but it basically confirms something we all knew anyway--digital downloads are the future for music.

First Look: U2's "360º" Concert Stage

When Bono and the boys take the stage next week in Barcelona for the first date in their yearlong "360º" concert tour, the set will get as much notice as the music. Okay, that may be a stretch. But the stage is a departure from the standard rock concert setup, and the band is known for its lavish set designs (on their last tour, in 2006, U2 showed maps, walking cartoon figures and text on a beaded curtain hung behind the stage).

Two Signs RIM is Revving Up Blackberry's Style

Blackberry, for all its success, suffers from one core problem: It's the boring corporate suit at the funky smartphone office party. Now two bits of news have popped up to suggest that RIM is trying to inject a bit of hipster design thinking into its products.
