Does Everything Need a Touch Screen?

Even coffee makers are making like the iPhone and getting all touch-friendly. Lest we end up in a world of fingerprints and head-colds, it's worth asking: does everything that plugs into the wall need a touch screen?

Apple Gives iPod Nano Video Eyes, iPod Touch Stays Blind

Apple just announced its refreshed iPod line-up, and among the products came the long-rumored news that the iPod Nano would be getting a built-in video cam...but not the iPod Touch. It's a tad surprising, but still a clever move.

Microsoft Sells Razorfish. What Will Happen to Surface Apps?

In 2007, Microsoft shelled out $6 billion for AQuantive, and as part of the deal received the somewhat venerable online-ad agency Razorfish. The agency's forward-looking focus on Internet advertising made it an ideal test shop for commercially-oriented table computing apps such as RFID-enabled business cards, which Razorfish branded as its own.

Watch Those Fingers

Imagine you had the opportunity to meet President Obama in Prague this week. Now imagine that you had no idea who he was, and so you decided to stick your fingers in his nose and eyes. Such are the joys of being a baby, as captured in a heartening and humanizing White House photo by Pete Souza.

The Seven Coolest Things Online This Week

Super-strong artificial muscles and telephony iPods? The future looks brighter--especially if you listen to President Obama's plans, as he laid them out for Jay Leno on Thursday. And with Gmail's new "Undo" feature, even the past got a facelift this week. Here's FastCompany.com's roundup of the coolest things online right now.

Carbon Nanotube Muscles Better Than Ours

We think of prostheses as second-rate substitutes to our own flesh and blood. But what if they could outperform what nature gave us?

HTC To Release Touch 3G For Developing Markets

The original HTC [PINK:HTCKF] Touch wasn’t a big critical hit when it arrived last year; it was widely panned for having a clunky touchscreen, too-small keys that could only be operable with a stylus, and not enough custom features on top of Windows Mobile. The HTC Touch Diamond corrected a lot of those flaws, but still left the masses wanting a more economical 3G touch-based smartphone from HTC. Now they’ve delivered.

New Nokia Touch Interface Inspires Yawns

It's been known for a while that Nokia [NYSE:NOK] is taking their newly-minted purchase of the Symbian OS and making it touch-friendly. Now screenshots have emerged of the company's Touch version of its S60 software, giving Nokia enthusiasts a glimpse at where the phone giant is taking their technology. Oddly, it seems the company isn't taking it much further than before.
