Microsoft Building One-Mile Wi-Fi

Despite protestations from the Bush administration, the FCC succeeded last year in making a certain chunk of the nation's TV and radio spectrum--dubbed "white space"--available to unlicensed broadcasters. That meant that companies could begin developing super Wi-Fi devices that create networks at a distance of miles, instead of the 50+ feet we're used to today. The dream, nationwide wireless Internet access, was within reach.

Design Studios vs. Large Design Agencies: The Changing Landscape of the Design Industry

When I was a boy I read a book about the history of battleships. That book illustrated how each generation of ships first grew larger and larger, yet then was superceded and obsolete by a smaller, more nimble type that allowed better maneuverability and survivability.

Two Mobile Should-Haves For Road Warriors

I don't normally consider myself a road warrior, but when my 92-year-old grandmother suggested I get an air miles card, I began to reevaluate.
